Gray areolate to continuous thallus with orange, gray-rimmed apothecia; gray disk rims surrounded variably by beaded thalline tissue (lecanorine disks); CHEMISTRY: disks K+ purple (anthraquinone); FIELD ID: gray thalli & gray-rimmed disks separate it from more colorful Gyalolechia flavovirescens
