Green-gray continuous thallus, lumpy in places, with scattered immersed apothecia marked by jagged white rims and gray pruinose disks; MICROSCOPY: spores colorless, not turning purple with addition of iodine, 11-14-celled, about 24-38 x 6-7 µm; CHEMISTRY: thallus K-; FIELD ID possible with experience & a field K test
Thelotrema dilatatum can be quite similar, though its margins are more dramatic; its thallus is K+ yellow; Phaeographis lobata also has big disks with jagged margins, but the disks and thallus are darker & its spores are brown
