Description

Filamentous thallus green to orange, densely tufted; difficult to distinguish from Trentepohlia algae except when fertile; apothecia bright orange, a flat disk when viewed from side; MICROSCOPY: colorless spores 2-celled; FIELD ID: with experience, can be told from C. interplexum, which has a looser thallus & a thickened, conical base beneath disks ("stalked," in the literature)

Coenogonium interplexum has looser tufts & thickened conical bases to disks; C. interpositum, not yet known from Ga., has single-celled spores
