Habitat Summary for element in Georgia: Flatwoods, swamps
Pale crust on bark, with flattened to hemispherical black perithecia-like ascomata; MICROSCOPY: spores 2/ascus, colorless, 2(-4?)-celled, cells concave or pinched at sides with internal ring-like structures appearing to form additional cell walls toward being 4-celled (apparently 4-celled when over-mature), about 37-48 x 15-16 µm; FIELD ID not possible, dissection required
Constrictolumina cinchonae has much smaller spores with rounded cells; other pale crusts with similar reproductive structures, e.g., Anisomeridium, Polymeridium, etc.

Flatwoods, swamps, on hardwood bark
Corticolous crustose (lichenized?) fungus, photobiont, if present, an alga in Trentepohlia (the literature is ambiguous as to lichenization in this species; the genus is a mixed bag of lichens & saprophytes, & the Arthopyreniaceae have been said to be only "occasionally associated with Trentepohlia" [Harris 1995])
