Description

Dark green to brown, corticate thallus dull semi-glossy, smooth; lirellae closed, with prominent labia, their centers brown, flat, & striped brown & gray; MICROSCOPY: spores colorless, muriform, about 28 x 12 µm, turning purple in iodine wet-mount; CHEMISTRY: no reactions; FIELD ID possible, taking careful note of flat, striped centers of lirellae

Similar Species

Fissurina insidiosa lacks the flat, contrasting brown-gray striped center of the lirellae, & has 4-celled spores unreactive to iodine
