Pale whitish to greenish thallus with mostly or entirely ecorticate surface; black lirellae mostly immersed in thallus with only the tops exposed, mostly closed (newer lirellae at thallus edges sometimes have exposed disks), sometimes richly branched, others more solitary, variable in length (with age?); labia simple, not striate; MICROSCOPY: exciple laterally to apically carbonized; hymenium clear; spores septate; FIELD ID possible with experience, noting ecorticate thallus & immersed lirellae
Other Graphis species are consistently corticate, & most have more prominent, naked lirellae
