Description

Short gray lobes with cilia along margins; undersides white, ecorticate, becoming dark toward center of thallus; lobes tipped with sub-terminal soralia, tips not reflexed, soralia not wider than lobe; small erect lobes along margins toward center of thallus; FIELD ID possible with experience, especially at high elevations

Similar Species

Other sorediate Heterodermia species, e.g., H. galactophylla, with ecorticate undersides have soralia on undersides of reflexed lobe tips & lack erect lobes at thallus center; that species is also more delicate, with long, pale rhizines
