Description

Pale green lobes narrow, smooth, slightly glossy, with stout, squat isidia; medulla patchily yellowish; CHEMISTRY: medulla K+ orange to red, PD+ orange (galbinic acid); FIELD ID possible with experience, using stout isidia & yellowish medulla as clues

Isidiate Xanthoparmelia species have small, inconspicuous isidia & white medullae

Rocky forests, shaded cliffs & outcrops, on silicious rock, usually in at least partial shade, rarely full sun; 2 records on Quercus bark
