Pale green to white thallus with broad, gray-pruinose lirellae clumped into loose groups or scattered; lirellae erumpent with thallus lapping up to or above thick, dark gray to black rims; MICROSCOPY: spores brown, densely muriform, hymenium inspersed with oil droplets, exciple carbonized at 2 apices or laterally to near base; FIELD ID: requires dissection to distinguish from lookalikes
Leiorreuma species have smaller lirellae, lacking thick dark rims, exciple carbonized at base, & smaller spores at most minimally sub-muriform; Graphis scripta can appear superficially similar, but has colorless septate spores & clear hymenium
