White crust with solitary black perithecia, thallus not corticate; MICROSCOPY: spores colorless, about 6-8-celled, constricted at septa, about 22.5 x 5.5 µm; CHEMISTRY: thallus UV-; FIELD ID: requires dissection to observe spore characteristics

Similar Species

Strigula stigmatella also has 8-celled spores, but cells are straight-sided, not bulbous (not constricted at septa)
