Thallus endolithic, apothecia black, with densely carbonized rim & clumps of carbonized material within disk, at times crowding the hymenium; Microscopy: spores simple, colorless, about 3-5 x 2 µm, many/ascus, paraphyses branching

Similar Species

Sarcogyne species occur in similar situations, are also endolithic & have polysporous asci, but they have smooth disks without insertions of carbonized material
