Green foliose thallus occasionally edged brown, lobes 3-6 mm wide, dotted with white pseudocyphellae (sometimes sparse) & pale maculae; small highly branched lobules form on older surfaces & margins of lobes; undersides brown at edges, black toward center; CHEMISTRY: spot tests negative; FIELD ID: distinctive, ID straightforward with a careful look
Sometimes Punctelia rudecta isidia will flatten & appear to form tiny lobules, but the are not well developed & abundant as with P. appalachensis
