Description

Variable dark-green to gray, smooth thallus (possibly varying from sunny to shady habitats, respectively) with solitary perithecia, black but with a thalline covering exposing only a pale-ringed black ostiole at apices; on gray thalli, upper sides of perithecial warts are often paler, giving thalli a satiny look; MICROSCOPY: spores brown, large & muriform, 45-60 x 16-22 µm, cells large, 8 x 2-6 with usually only 4 in the widest rows; ; FIELD ID: dissection recommended
