Whitish to gray thallus verruculose, continuous; apothecia on thick, short columns the width of the disk, black with a pale rim, disk a powdery mazaedium; MICROSCOPY: spores brown, 4-celled, about 12.5 x 5.5 µm; chemistry: thallus UV+ yellow (lichexanthone); FIELD ID possible with a field UV test & careful study
