Dull gray-green to olive-brown lobes, matte, ruffled, about 3-5 mm wide, lobe surfaces often textured with shallow ridges & pits; black to brown cilia interspersed along margins; dark brown to black, cylindrical pycnidia lining margins; brown apothecia occasionally seen; CHEMISTRY: medulla C+, KC+ red (olivetoric acid), UV-; FIELD ID possible with a C test to medulla
Platismatia can be superficially similar, but are whiter with low, lumpy pycnidia along margins; Tuckermannopsis orbata is similar, but medulla is negative for chemical tests
