Description

Pale yellow-green thallus with lobes 0.5-2.5 mm wide, somewhat adnate to loosely attached, strap-like; no isidia; apothecia absent to sparse; underside black, brown at lobe tips; CHEMISTRY: medulla K+ yellow (to orangish), PD+ orange (stictic acid complex); FIELD ID: perhaps best sorted in the lab given the array of chemical tests needed

other Xanthoparmelia lacking isidia & with black undersides include rare X. hypomelaena, which has medulla K+ brownish, PD+ red & X. hypofusca, medulla K+ red turning maroon
