Gunmetal-gray thallus made up of branched lobes arranged in flattened rosettes, branches 0.2-0.5 mm across; straight white rhizines radiate out from beneath lobes; apothecia orange, also with radiating white rhizines; FIELD ID straightforward with experience; broader lobes, not the fuzzy mounds of C. filiformis
