Description

Filamentous thallus green to orange, loosely tufted; difficult to distinguish from Trentepohlia algae except when fertile; apothecia bright orange, a thickened, conical base beneath disks ("stalked," in the literature), when viewed from side; MICROSCOPY: colorless spores 2-celled; FIELD ID: with experience, can be told from C. implexum, which has a denser thallus & flat disks when viewed from the side
